Where do you run?
We run in south Suffolk, in the countryside between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, and the villages along the Stour Valley.
How fit do I need to be?
We have runs ranging from 5k to 5 miles. We are a social group, and have a deliberate policy of running at the speed of the slowest runner. You won't be left behind, and you will have time to chat.
If you're a beginner runner, we recommend the Couch to 5k programme, which is a great way to get started. Once you've graduated from that, then you're ready to run with us.
What do I need?
You, a dog or two, trail shoes, and appropriate canicross equipment. You can find more information on that on the K9 Trailtime website. We don't let anyone run in a non-pulling harness, collar, or head-collar, and our runs aren't suitable for off lead dogs. You may want to carry water, and please bring poo bags, because there's nothing like a run to get things moving.
We recommend that everyone have appropriate public liability insurance, because you are responsible for you and your dog's safety and behaviour. This is often included in your pet insurance, but it's worth double-checking that you're covered.
Do I have to have a dog?
Well, we are a canicross group...
Getting out in the countryside with our dogs is what we do. However, you're more than welcome to bring a non-dog running friend or partner. And if your dog is ill, injured, too young, or if it's simply too hot, cold, wet or windy for them to have fun, then you're very welcome to join us solo.
How do I start?
Just get in touch... you can find us on Facebook, or email us at StourValleyCanicross (at) gmx (dot) co (dot) uk
